A Message from Kelly

Welcome to The Copywriting Connection! This week we are looking at characteristics of successful entrepreneurs and unsuccessful entrepreneurs. Whose actions do you follow? If you tend to take on the unsuccessful traits, read this week's feature article and see what actions you can take to change your outcomes. Some things are consistent no matter what field you are in.

Today I am registering my kids for school. We are getting our hair done for school pictures, then buzzing up to school to complete hords of paperwork, stand in line for hours to find out which locker they'll have, and run around catching up with friends they haven't seen all summer. One of my favorite things about being a freelance copywriter is I CAN take the day off to do these things with my kids. Don't you love creating your life the way you want it rather than floating downstream, out of control like everyone else?

Happy Copywriting!

Profitable Versus Unprofitable Copywriters

There is one huge difference I see between entrepreneurs that are profitable and successful and those that aren't. The differences I see are true in all industries, not just with copywriters.

Entrepreneurs that are successful follow through on what they start (including their training). They try new things. They take action and don't waste time "planning the plan". If they have an idea to market in a new area or grow their business in a different direction they do it, immediately.

They don't wait until tomorrow to get started with anything; they start right now, today. They don't say "I am going to start writing articles and networking with businesses tomorrow". They just do it.

Let me show what a successful business does when they get an idea...
I have client in my copywriting business that is a perfect example of what to do to ensure success. This healthcare clinic wants to attract a specific type of patient – patients that work in corporations, sit at a desk all day and are prone to develop certain conditions, and have good insurance.

In our first meeting we discussed what they are currently doing to market their business, and who they are currently attracting from this marketing. We looked at what is directed to this specific group they want to work with, what isn't going to this group, and brainstormed some ideas of new things they can do to reach this market.

I met with this client again today and guess what...they've implemented every single idea we discussed at our last meeting and took immediate steps to cut back on what wasn't working well. They didn't think about it or wait until next month when they were slower. They took action and made things happen. That's why they're taking in over a million dollars this year and others in their industry aren't. They purchased books to get ideas to further meet the needs of this market, joined networking groups, and scheduled talks at targeted businesses.

Not achieving the profits you desire? Ask yourself these questions...
How are you handling your copywriting business? When you see information on a topic you need to learn more about, or find a networking group that your target market frequents, have you taken immediate action to get in with that group? Or have you told yourself yet another excuse for why it can happen later (and yes, "I don't have enough money" is an excuse).

Money and success loves speed and action. You don't get where you want to go by sitting around and thinking about it. Get the training you need. Get involved. Move.
