A Message from Kelly

Welcome to The Copywriting Connection! This week we are looking at some out of the box ways to market your copywriting business. If you've been doing what everyone else is teaching you to do and it's not working, it's time to try some other, proven marketing tactics. If you want different results you need to take different actions. Check out this week's article for a couple good ones to get you started!

This weekend my family went hiking in Eldorado Springs, which is a beautiful mountainous area with tons of hiking trails, a big river to play in, and caves to explore -- and it's only 20 minutes from my house. We didn't get there until noon Sunday and chose a trail we hadn't done before. Turns out that trail had no shade. It was hot and sunny and the kids and I were dying from the heat. After about a mile I told my husband this was crazy and we needed to turn back, it's not fun or safe when it's that hot. After telling us what wimps we are he reluctantly turned back. I now have a heat rash all over my arms and shoulders and I think my poor dog Carmella has sunburned her paws (is that possible?). Next time we go hiking it's going to be at 8:00am, not late on Sunday when everyone rolls out of bed late in the morning!

Check some photos of the hiking trip on our blog: www.thecopywritinginstitute.com/wp/

Happy Copywriting!

Three out of the box ways to get new copywriting clients

Are you done banging your head against the wall struggling to make ends meet? Have you tried everything you know to attract new clients and just aren't getting the results you desire?

It's time to try something a little bit different. Let's take a look at three effective marketing techniques businesses use that copywriters tend to pass-by.

  1. Use flyers. Buy a small, plastic, stand-alone brochure holder and put some of your brochures or flyers in them. Ask a business owner in a similar business if you can put them on their counter. Try to find places your target market goes -- think lunch outlets in a business area, chiropractic offices, fitness club, a nail salon. Be creative.
  1. Hold an "open house" where you are available for consultations and networking. Promote this through your chamber of commerce, on your website, or through a direct mail campaign. Host the open house somewhere physical, such as at the chamber, or hold a teleconference where you are available to answer questions.
  1. Create a gift certificate and hand them out to businesses in your area. The gift certificate can be for a marketing/copywriting consultation or for $100 off a sales letter. You decide what works for you. Make the certificate appealing enough to attract new clients to come to you.

These are just three easy and affordable ways to market your copywriting business. If you are stuck in a rut and not making the money you know you can be, I suggest you step out of your comfort zone and do something different. If you want different results you need to take different actions! The definition of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results – it just doesn't happen magically.
